Refinement, what does it mean? This means, when substances like sugar or oil is refined; it is being made pure by the removal of other substances from it. If you refine something such as a theory or idea, you improve it by making some alterations to it. People who are refined are very polite and well mannered.

In the circular world, when anything is being refined, there is a process which it passes through, before becoming a refined product. For example, to refine crude oil for it to turn to petrol, it is not an hour job, even if it is, the crude oil itself would have undergone a lot of things before coming out to be a petroleum product. To refine things in this life, is not easy for non-living things, much more a living soul. In the process of refinement, it is neither easy for the refiner nor the refined, because a lot of things need to be put in or/and withdrawn in order for the beauty of the product to come out.

Now let’s talk about the refining process in the hand of the Lord in the life of the people. Refining process, what is it in the life of believers, the people of God?

This is a process where God changes the life of his people. That is, the redeemed ones, to his own taste by removing all the vices that are not supposed to be there and adding all the spiritual fruits that are needed in their life.

When a child is born to this earth, he or she has three important components:

(l) Body (2) Soul (3) Spirit

Refining Process in the Holy Ghost School, The three components are explained below:

BODY: It comprises of the bones, muscles and blood that aids living, without it, no one can live.

SOUL: In a human soul, you would find will, mind and emotion. These three things make up the soul of a man and a man cannot function without these three.

1. (1) You must give your will.
2. (2) Your mind is there to direct you on what to do and how to about it.
3. (3) Your emotion is your feeling towards what you want to do, it can either be right or wrong.

SPIRIT: The spirit of a man is made up of:

1. Conscience: This is a part of the mind that tells one what to do or what not to do. Conscience can also grow out of a particular habit or character, which a person indulges in, and believes is right, even if it might be improper or dangerous.
2. Intuition: This can also mean intellect; on the other hand it is the ability to interpret information well, think and understand ideas. Someone with good intuition would appear clever.
3. Communion: This can be a means through which man can have communion either with nature, God, spirit or whatever.

One may say, why this explanation. But I can assure you that these three components will lead us to a better understanding of what refinement is. A believer who goes through the refinement process without the concordance and harmony of his body, soul and spirit has not truly gone through the process, so God has not really worked in the person. The Bible says in the book of Romans 3:23 “That all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”, hence the lost glory cannot be won back by half measures. You have to complete the process fully!.

BODY: The body is the physical attribute of man that can be seen by all. This one cannot be hidden. That is why it is easy for someone to label the other man a sinner, since that can be judged from his behaviour. You can know a sinner by the way he talks, where he goes, people he mingles with, the choice of his taste, the dress he puts on and so on.

The body is important in the process of refinement in many ways. For example, if anything positive has happened to the spirit, it must reflect on the outside and people will see. For example, anyone that God has fully refined will not wear a dress that reveals half her breasts for men to ogle at. The body also holds other life components, it is inside of it that the others stay or live. Have you now seen why the body is important in the process of refinement?

Soul: As earlier mentioned, In the soul of a man, there are: 1) Will

2) Mind

3) Emotion

God works with these three components in the process of refinement because the Bible says: in Isaiah 1:19, “If ye be willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the Land”. So this means that before

refinement could take place in someone’s life, God even needs our approval to go ahead! God needs our will; we must he willing to go on the journey with him. It is a journey indeed, and it is not a day work,

Mind: Your mind is there to think towards the essence of giving the will. It is there to convince you to surrender your will to God in order for Him to refine you, because there must be an agreement. So the mind is there to elevate the will or weaken it.

Emotion: Emotion is not left out in the process of refinement. When God is about to refine you, what is going to be your feeling towards it? Will it be that of resignation or struggle, love or hatred, trust or doubt, boldness or fear Whatever your feeling is, know that God will work with you depending on your emotion.

33. I) FEAR: will you be afraid going through refining process, knowing too well the pains you are going to pass through? Certainly it is not going to be easy, not the bread and butter way we would have wanted. No, no, no. But Jesus has nullified the fear of losing to gain, when you submit yourself to him, as seen in Mark 10:17-30 and Mathew 6:33.

LOVE: Through the type of love you have for God, do you really want to be refined? God wants to know who you are before Him, before you can be refined. Do you really desire Him? Do you Love Him and ready to do anything He asked you to do? Listen, being born again does not change facial look, neither does it change your colour nor make you taller or shorter. But through your love for Christ, you will be happy to make yourself available as an instrument of refinement (Acts 5:40-42).

ANGER: Anger can make God to withdraw from refining you. Are you the type that would refuse God to refine you at his own pace and taste, while you will be angry seeing someone else who fears God, Love him and gave his total willingness to God, and is rapidly transformed and enjoying the fruits, only for you to curse, swear, backbite and say all sorts of things in anger against such person? (Ephesians. 4:17-26).

JEALOUSY: Are you jealous of those who yielded themselves as an instrument to be refined, purified, sanctified and totally cleansed. Let us go back to Ephesians. 4:20-23 which says: “But you have not so learned Christ; if so be that you have heard and have been taught by him as the truth is in Jesus. That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lust; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind” The book of Proverb 6:34 also says: “For Jealousy is the rage of a man; therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance ”

Therefore, refining process in the Holy Ghost school is talking about the process of cleansing, washing, purging, purifying and sanctifying the church of Christ through fire. This is the way God wants to prepare his saints, at these latter days for the rapture, or Jesus second coming.

Refining process also talks about purity, holiness and righteousness in the souls of men that love God both in physical and in spiritual realm, and are ready to go extra miles for Christ, Let’s see the book of 1 Peter 1:3-4. In this place the word of God is telling us that our rejoicing is just but a season, knowing too well that there is heaviness in our heart which is caused by too many temptations. Now, if you will give your will, humble yourself and give God the chance to try your faith with fire. I tell you the outcome will be much more precious than gold and silver that perishes. After God finishes what he wants to do in you, God himself will get the praise, honour and glory. For example, before my refinement, you cannot take me for anything because of my life style, but by God’s grace, anywhere I find myself now, both children and adult always fall in Love with me. Glory be to Jesus.

If you follow what Zechariah 13:9 says here, you will know that, it is not everybody that is called to pass through the process, the chosen ones and the ones God refers to as “the third part”, that is, there is a few out of the multitude who will be ready to pass through fire, as gold and silver is tried and why not be among the few?.

What is this fire? These are trials, temptations and tribulations tests. All these things can come through your enemies, your stubborn boss, even your pastor, husband, wife, children, neighbours, friends and relations.

Zechariah 8:8 also says: “And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem and they shall be my people and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness”. Now, have you seen the qualities of the people who are going to dwell in this land, “Truth and Righteousness” God goes on to declare that whoever has this Truth and Righteousness, He will sow ‘her1 unto himself in the earth. “And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people. Thou art my people; and they shall say: “Thou art my God”. (Hosea2:23).
