Welcome to Book 2 — Listening.
This book continues the 366DaysDBS journey by inviting us into one of the most important disciplines of true discipleship: learning to listen. Not merely to hear sounds, words, sermons, opinions, or information, but to truly listen—to God, to Scripture, to the Holy Spirit, to people, to pain, to silence, to correction, and to the quiet invitations of obedience that often come in ordinary moments.
Discipleship does not begin with speaking. It begins with hearing. Jesus repeatedly said, “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.” Those words remind us that spiritual hearing is not automatic. A person can listen to sermons and still miss God’s voice. A person can read Scripture and still resist obedience. A person can hear another person speaking and still fail to understand the heart behind the words. Listening is therefore not passive. It is a spiritual discipline that requires humility, attention, patience, discernment, and surrender.
In Book 1 — Awakening, we began with the call to see. We were invited to wake up, pay attention, and recognise what God is doing around us. In Book 2 — Listening, that awakening becomes deeper. We now ask: What is God saying? What is He revealing through His Word? What is He exposing in our hearts? What is He inviting us to obey? Who around us has been speaking, hurting, waiting, or crying silently while we have been too distracted to notice?
Across these 31 days, you will encounter stories drawn from homes, families, churches, communities, workplaces, villages, schools, hospitals, borders, storms, festivals, and nations. These stories are not written merely to entertain. They are mirrors. They invite us to examine our assumptions, our relationships, our motives, our obedience, our prayer life, and our willingness to respond when God speaks.
You will meet fathers and daughters, mothers and sons, neighbours and strangers, teachers and students, doctors and patients, leaders and servants, communities facing hardship, and nations wrestling with deeper questions of unity, preparedness, worship, and hope. Some stories will comfort you. Others may confront you. Some may sound very close to your own experience. Each one is designed to help you pause long enough to ask, “Lord, what are You saying to me?”
This book continues to carry the three guiding pictures of the 366DaysDBS journey.
The Eagle reminds us to see from God’s perspective. In this book, seeing and listening work together. We learn to notice what others miss, to discern what lies beneath the surface, and to pay attention to people whose voices are often ignored.
The Lion reminds us to lead with courage and conviction. Listening does not make disciples passive. True listening often leads to difficult obedience: apologising, forgiving, reconciling, serving, correcting, waiting, rebuilding, or taking the first step when others remain silent.
The Servant reminds us that Jesus is our pattern. He listened with compassion. He heard the cry of the blind, the questions of the confused, the grief of the broken, and the silent faith of those who came to Him in desperation. To serve like Christ, we must learn to listen like Christ.
Every day in this book follows the simple rhythm of Discovery Bible Study: story, Scripture, reflection, obedience, prayer, declaration, sharing, and growth. The goal is not to complete another reading plan. The goal is transformation. We read so that we may hear. We hear so that we may obey. We obey so that Christ may be formed in us and reproduced through us in the lives of others.
Throughout Book 2 — Listening, you will be challenged to listen in widening circles. First, within your own heart. Then within your family. Then within your community. Finally, across nations. This movement is intentional because discipleship is never private only. A person who learns to listen to God becomes more attentive to people. A family that listens well becomes healthier. A church that listens well becomes stronger. A community that listens well becomes more compassionate. A nation that listens to God’s wisdom becomes better prepared for the future.
This journey also reminds us that listening is incomplete without obedience. The wise builder in Matthew 7 did not stand firm because he heard the words of Jesus only. He stood firm because he heard and practised them. In the same way, this book invites you to move beyond reflection into action. Each day asks you to identify one step of obedience, one relationship to strengthen, one burden to carry, one prayer to pray, one truth to share, or one habit to build.
Do not rush through these pages. Read slowly. Reflect honestly. Pray sincerely. Listen carefully. Where the Holy Spirit convicts you, respond quickly. Where He comforts you, receive His grace. Where He calls you to act, obey with courage. Where He brings someone to mind, reach out. The smallest act of obedience can become the beginning of deep transformation.
This book is part of a larger movement: disciples who make disciples, families that become centres of faith, churches that become communities of obedience, and nations touched by ordinary people who hear God and respond. Great movements often begin quietly. A prayer. A conversation. A restored relationship. A shared meal. A decision to forgive. A willingness to listen.
By the end of these 31 days, our prayer is not simply that you will have read another book. Our prayer is that you will become more attentive to God’s voice, more responsive to His Word, more compassionate toward people, more faithful in obedience, and more prepared to help others hear and follow Jesus.
The journey continues.

Love deeply.
Serve humbly.
Make disciples intentionally.
