I never pass by an opportunity to read one of Jill Eileen Smith’s new Biblical Fiction masterpieces. “Daughter of Eden: Eve’s Story” is one of the most unique stories I’ve read in a long time, for obvious reasons… after all, it’s not every book that tells us the story of the first man and woman ever created! And it certainly exceeded my expectations in all ways.
From the start I was enchanted by the words on the page, as literally the world being created was brought to life in our imaginations. It was awe-inspiring, to say the least, and made me go back and look at the first chapters of Genesis with renewed wonder. This same occurrence took place as I continued through the novel, when different events from the first book of the Bible unfolded throughout the course of Adam and Eve’s very long lives. Their descendants continued to make choices that changed the course of world history, and this novel, while fictional, brings to life those early days with fascinating insight and imagination.
Some of the details in this story are difficult to read, I won’t deny, and it is raw and real throughout, holding nothing back. But this is also part of the beauty of “Daughter of Eden”, and I really wouldn’t want anything to be different. It was thought-provoking and beautiful, challenging and memorable. And, if you are ready for something different, for a story that will whisk you back to the very beginnings of time itself, well, this is the book for you – and one that I highly recommend to all fans of Biblical Fiction.
